Got the story about the Korean medical system this weekend. It reminds me that getting hurt here could be a very bad thing.
One of the English teachers here was pretty drunk. Thinking the median in the road he was crossing was flat ground, he hopped the surrounding bushes. He found out quickly it was a 20 ft drop. Needless to say, things went badly. Arriving at the hospital his blood pressure was found too low to operate. He is A- blood, the hospital had a+ and o- (the universal donor) in stock. They refused to give him a transfusion of o- because they believe that mixing ANY blood types is deadly. They waited 3 days, until they found a a- donor to operate. Friends of the teacher had U.S. doctors calling the Korean doctors about the transfusion to no effect. Thanks to the wait, the guy is now in a coma.
Very scary stuff.
