Men have it easier?

The other night I was having, over man drinks, a conversation with an acquaintance about personal philosophy. She believed in making a strong base in life and then venturing out from that base. This is a stark contrast to my go where the wind leads view. This led to her stating that "Men sure have it easier". She fears taking risks and leaving her safety net, then bemoans missed ventures. If you see something you want, work for it. Success or failure at least you are in the fight. When you give up the fight, can you really live. Life is not safe, every now and then you have to roll the dice and see how they land. Just my view on life, right or wrong it is the path I walk.

Music of love

I've traveled pretty far (been around the world twice), and have experienced a fair number of cultures. Each culture has it's own style and taste of music. In all the countries 2 names keep coming up when romance is mentioned, Barry White and Marvin Gaye. It seems that anywhere in the world, where a man is trying to get a woman in "the mood", one or both of these men will be called into duty. French may be the "Language of Love", but Barry and Marvin make the "Music of Love". World-wide the mellow tones of "Can't get enough of your love, babe" or "Let's get it on" will be making the world a slightly better place.

drunken debauchery revealed

Before going out to the clubs last night, I had a get togeather at my place. This is not a usual thing for me, being a loner by nature. A good time was had by all, much drinking ensued.

Weekend yay!

Well the title just about says it all. The weekend, fun filled drunken debauchery for all. I am going to do my best to stay out of the dance clubs this time (even drunk I can't dance). I was going to rant about the fight over a veteran's memorial in California, but just not in the mood now (look out for Monday *grin*). I hope all who read this have a great weekend, and remember....Don't do anything I would do.

Those wacky lefties

After reading this story from the N.Y. Times, once again I see just how hypocritical the A.C.L.U. is. So as long as you agree with them you have the freedom of speech. The concept behind the A.C.L.U. is good, in actual practice it fails. Instead of promoting freedoms for all, like it should be, it seems to be only about promoting socialism. Freedom of expression is for all people, not just the ones who agree with you. I may disagree with you, but I will fight tooth and nail to protect your right to say it (I know I butchered a famous quote, but oh well).

Walking the path

We all walk through life. In legend Merlin literally walked a circular path around the earth (but never receives credit for discovering the new world, darn you Columbus). The confident blaze their path, the insecure leap from path to path following others. Not sure where my path is going, or when it will end, but who does? At the end of the trip, what matters is how much you enjoyed the journey.

Accursed household appliance

As I type this a repair man is desperately trying to save my washing machine. Interesting experience trying to explain what is wrong with a machine when you have no common language (involves making funny sounds, and pantomime). I am hoping this will resolve in a not very expensive solution, this is probably not the case seeing how he just went to his truck for big tools. Such is life :)

a quote that I can relate with

From NCIS season 3

Zeva: She's not your type.
Tony: Really hot, in a maids outfit...She is totally my type.

Very scary

Got the story about the Korean medical system this weekend. It reminds me that getting hurt here could be a very bad thing.

One of the English teachers here was pretty drunk. Thinking the median in the road he was crossing was flat ground, he hopped the surrounding bushes. He found out quickly it was a 20 ft drop. Needless to say, things went badly. Arriving at the hospital his blood pressure was found too low to operate. He is A- blood, the hospital had a+ and o- (the universal donor) in stock. They refused to give him a transfusion of o- because they believe that mixing ANY blood types is deadly. They waited 3 days, until they found a a- donor to operate. Friends of the teacher had U.S. doctors calling the Korean doctors about the transfusion to no effect. Thanks to the wait, the guy is now in a coma.

Very scary stuff.

Trolls

Last night Mia attracted the attention of some trolls. Trolls, if you don't know, are people who do nothing but post negative/derogatory comments on websites. I think the anonymity of the internet gives rise to such people. They get to say things on the web that they would never have the bravery to say in the real world.

Things are so much clearer....

This headline is from National Geographic "Human, Chimp Ancestors May Have Mated, DNA Suggests"

This explains so much about Ted Kennedy and Rush Limbaugh

zealots

I just don't understand fanatics of any type. From sports to religious to sci fi, it just isn't me. It's not that I am not for or against things, it's just that common sense grounds me out. I enjoy watching rugby, but if my team loses (or wins for that matter), I am not going to go on a destructive riot. I am a Christian, but I am not going to kill anyone(or more importantly, myself) because they are not. I enjoy watching Star Trek, but I sure as hell am not going to dress like the characters at any time other than Halloween (or if money and/or sex is involved).

some good fun movies.

Just some movies that are worth watching:

Big trouble in Little China
Super troopers
Lock, Stock, and two smoking barrels
Snatch
Wallace and Grommit, curse of the were rabbit
Serenity (plus the Firefly series)
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
The Life of Brian
Space Balls
History of the world, Part 1
Robin Hood: Men in tights
Young Frankenstien
Cheech and Chong Up in smoke

Just a few, feel free to add to it

Another important lesson

Make sure your passport is not in your pocket when doing laundry. All day yesterday was spent standing in line at the embassy...all day.

What is wrong with these people (rant)

After having a nice, relaxing weekend I made the mistake of checking the news this morning. I have since shifted gears from pleasant, to disgusted.

Lets start with a judge is in trouble for saying the Pledge of allegiance. The judge in question did not force participation in saying the pledge, but it made one lawyer "uncomfortable" and that it "Promoted Patriotism". What the fuck?? In an American court room, a judge can not say the Pledge? If you don't want to say the Pledge fine, that is your right I have no problem with that. How dare you tell me that because it makes you uncomfortable, someone else can not.

The next thing that got me spinning, a apartment complex has told it's residents that they can no longer use the public areas to have bible study, or display a nativity scene at Christmas. They said the Bible studies and nativity scene might make tenets feel that one religion is preferred over another. To this I say "Fuck you". I am so sick of witch hunt against Christians that is so stylish right now. In California a school principal was sued because he "was a confessed Christian" and had a bible on his desk. What comes next, churches can no longer be in public because they might offend someone? I am Christian, I don't try to force my beliefs on others, why do they get to force their beliefs on me?

And finally the ACLU is trying to set up a hatred hotline, that people can call if they see someone being insensitive towards another. So now ontop of it being wrong to be patriotic and/or a Christian, I can no longer be an asshole when I want to be.
Give me a break, it is every person's right to be a asshole.

Like I said, just highly disgusted at the moment. The only high point in the news was Ted Kennedy's plane getting struck by lightning, just proves that God hates Ted Kennedy as much as I do :).

That was odd

Having recovered enough to make a coherent entry, I have to share a strange occurrence from yesterday. After lunch, I saw a neon pink moped zooming through traffic, going the wrong way, as fast as it could go, being ridden by 2 men. In hot pursuit, sirens blazing was a policeman on a motorcycle. Just not something you expect to see.
Ran into these two right after seeing the chase. At times this can be a really strange place.

almost human

Had a bit of excess the last night, and am now paying for it. After comsuming some much need food, and a hot shower am back to feeling somewhat human.

Grey

Well, looking in the mirror this morning, I noticed that my hair is more and more grey. At 31 I have more grey than my father. Not something that bothers me, just noticing the change. A coworker pointed the same out about my hair awhile back, and wondered why I did not dye it. Can't see doing it.
In my life I have circled the globe twice. I have visited over 30 different countries, and have visited 6 of the 7 continents (not going to go to Antarctica, hate the cold). Seeing all that I have seen, I still don't understand a lot of men's fear of looking older. My stance remains the same, I earned my grey.

Sub or dom?

A friend of mine posed the question to me. To her, in a relationship you are one or the other, to each their own I guess. I am neither, to me a relationship is about being equals. I can't be around someone who simpers and gives in constantly, so that takes me out of the dom slot. If you try to control me, my nature is to rebel (and use all sorts of interesting phrases on what you can do to yourself with all sorts of unusual objects). Of course this could be why I am still single. *grin*

Rain day

Rain day,
The kind of day that really needs to be spent on the couch with a good book.
Rain day,
The kind of day that drains your motivation, leaving you in a good natured laziness.
Rain day,
The kind of day that leaves the world smelling fresh and new.

Sir Winston Churchill...

Found this picture of Sir Winston Churchill, from 1940 and he is holding a 1928 Thomson fitted with a drum magazine. The British were the first in WW2 to use the "Tommy Gun". I found this in a gun magazine if you could not guess. I'm not British, but this is one of the best pictures of a world leader I have ever seen.

Adventures in Japan

Well we made it back, safely and somewhat sanely. Had a very good time, Japan is a wonderful place. So on with the story.

We left Taegu Thursday night, so we could catch the hydrofoil ferry out of Pusan. We had booked the cheapest rooms we could find since we were only going to be there long enough to sleep. Will not do that again, I highly expected to wake up in a tub full of ice missing my kidneys. We made it through the night and proceeded to the ferry. The hydrofoil is the way to go, a very smooth ride. The only snag getting out of Korea, was the folks at the immigration office have no clue what they are doing. I almost was detained because the woman behind the counter did not know what a multiple entry visa was. After some discussion and asking to see a supervisor we were on our way.

Arriving in Japan, we learned our second lesson (the first being Korean immigration is staffed by idiots, this will be shown again later)...Have a hotel booked in advance. It is very hard to get though Japanese immigration if you don't have a hotel booked, it took us about 45 minutes longer that it should have. After getting into Fukuoka, we found it to be a beautiful city. I found the people to be polite, considerate, and generally very happy. I highly recommend vacationing here to anyone. We only had one night in Japan, so we did not see a tenth of what we wanted to.

The trip back on the hydrofoil was a blast, the weather had turned bad so the sea was quite rough. Bobbing and weaving like a roller coaster, the hydrofoil impressed me with the speed it took the waves. Returning to Korea, we ran into the next big problem.

One of our intrepid explorers, was detained at immigration. The man at this counter told him that his visa was expired, even though it clearly stated on the visa that it was good. After about an hour of waiting for him to be released, he finally was let into the country. They had confiscated his residency card, and revoked his visa, he now has 28 days to get new ones or he will be deported. With the exception of Korean immigration, the trip was a great time. I will be going back there sometime.

Here are a few of the shots I took there. I will post more as I finish processing them. Click on a pic to see it bigger.

Road trip

Being a holiday weekend here in Korea, looks like a good time for a road trip. Yep, definitely a road trip. Some coworkers and myself are heading to Fukuoka, Japan. Looks like it will be a refreshing escape, after this week's female induced insanity.

If only life was easy....

At a bit mixed up today. Why is it that a woman can make your life a living hell with out even trying? How is it a grown man, who has traveled the world, be reduced to a state of confusion by the bat of an eye? I've said it before and I will most likely say it again, life was a lot easier before puberty.

Oh the horror...

Been watching some horror movies lately (no, not Gigli), the local English channels have been on a 80' horror kick. It might be my upbringing, but axe wielding madmen just don't scare me. In fact the only horror movie that has ever scared me was the "Exorcist", that one still wiggs me out.

Jason, from the "Friday the 13th" movies-
Everyone's favorite machete wielding zombie. Decently scary, but no witty banter. Always the same story teens go to camp, do drugs have sex and die. Jason has staying power, and has proven resistant to bullets. Lack of brains and hand/eye coordination is Jason's weakness. The old "Scooby Doo" knocking him into a vat of quick drying cement would work well.

Freddy, from the "Nightmare on Elm street" movies-
The razor gloved, master of dreams. Not really scary, but always makes with the wise cracks. Teens go to sleep and die in their dreams. Creative, and attacks where the victim is most helpless. Personally for this one, would take a hit of LSD before going to sleep on the "It's a small world" ride.

Leatherface, from "The Texas Chainsaw massacre"-
Human skin mask wearing, lumberjack wanna be. It's a guy with a chainsaw, no special powers, just a chainsaw. The guy doesn't even have any witty banter, like a second hand Jason. The scary thing is, this was based on a true story. What gets me on this one is, you're in Texas and there are no firearms to be found. Paper may beat rock, but 12 gauge shotgun loaded with .00 buckshot beats chainsaw. Personally this would be a short movie for me BANG...Thud "Roll Credits!!"

Pinhead, from "Hellraiser"-
Demon from the pits, and Marilyn Manson's fashion consultant. Well spoken, methodical, and not above using the smart ass quips. A step up from the mindless mayhem crowd. Although it is kind of hard to take a monster serious that looks like a masochist with a piercing fetish. Prevention is the best way to deal with Pinhead, nice shiny box to hell meets 16lb. Sledge hammer.

Still, the old 80's horror flics are entertaining. Mindless violence, combined with corny dialogue and gratuitous nudity, seems to appeal to the base part of the male mind.
