Accursed household appliance

As I type this a repair man is desperately trying to save my washing machine. Interesting experience trying to explain what is wrong with a machine when you have no common language (involves making funny sounds, and pantomime). I am hoping this will resolve in a not very expensive solution, this is probably not the case seeing how he just went to his truck for big tools. Such is life :)
