O villain, villain, smiling, damnèd villain!
My tables—meet it is I set it down
That one may smile, and smile, and be a villain—
Hamlet Act 1, scene 5, 105–109
For every hero, must there be a villain? What defines each party? Is it definite, or just a matter of perspective?
In the movies it's a bit easier to tell who is who. In real life, not so much.

You answered your own question, bro. Yes, it's all about perspective. The hero and the villain are defined by the relative points of view of those observing from outside the given situation, and a person may, at different points, wear both hats.
One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter.
It is all perspective.
