Tomorrow...
"It's not that late you could stay a bit longer."
I look down into deep dark eyes, it's a fight not to drown in them. The rest of the bar fades into nothingness, the clean crispness of her scent cuts through the smell of smoke and alcohol. In the back of my mind something primal feels the warmth of her nearness and hungers.
"Afraid I have to, us old timers need our beauty sleep. Not all of us are as blessed as you."
I grin mischievously, still trapped by her eyes. A coy smile graces me.
"Call me tomorrow?"
"My word on it."
Her eyes close, releasing me. I feel the heat of her breath on my cheek. Our lips meet as the world drops away.
Who knows what tomorrow holds? I can't wait to find out.

Too many goodbyes...
Things started off with the intervening hand of Murphy's law.
"Morning... What time is your train?"
"
Things kick into high gear as realization kicks in.
"Darlin, it's 6:30. Get up and get dressed, we gotta go!!!"
"None of my alarms went off, how does this happen?"
Fumbling on a pair of socks "Don't worry bout that now, we gotta move."
6:34
A small black car, revs and speeds out of an apartment complex.
6:40
The small black car weaves through city traffic at break neck speeds.
6:45
The driver of the small black car curses vehemently at a traffic light, in multiple languages.
6:50
The small black car screeches to a halt in front of the Taegu Train station. A large dark haired man grabs a suitcase and sprints for the lobby, followed closely by a petite blond woman.
6:57
The man hands the suitcase up to the woman as the train door closes.
I watch the train door close and feel the coldness of a new void. I'm sure we'll meet again, the world is a small place.
Fair winds and following seas, Dove. I'll miss you.

White knight redux...
Here recently a person I know has been in a bad place. Not only did their "friends" not lend a hand, but some tried to take advantage of the situation. I just don't get it.

Truths from the weekend.....
Started Friday night in the Shisha (hooka) bar. Love this place, mellow and relaxing. Nothing like kicking back, drinking wine, and smoking the hooka. During the chitchat I learned some truths about some folks, and feel the fool for trusting them. On the plus side learned one friend is completely trustworthy.

Then off to the mud festival, a total blast. Imagine, if you will, THOUSANDS of westerners and Koreans getting together for drinking and playing in the mud. Some of the truths from revealed here were:
I am cursed to have a farmers tan. 2 days of sun, and my legs and trunk are still way too white. On the plus side I apparently don't burn either.
If you are a 98 pound man there are things you don't do. One of them is to lay claim to a patch of public beach during a festival to set up umbrellas that people can pay to sit under. If you do this and then try to kick a lot (600+) of drunken partying folks off of it, you do not start with the large group of drunken G.I.s.
During such a festival as this, if the stores near the beach sell fireworks they will be used on the beach. Drunk westerners will shoot roman candles at any thing/body. Trying to stop these things from happening is unwise at best.
No beach should be without rum or tequila. Soju and Makali (Korean booze) just doesn't do the job.
At no time should you bring any small dogs to an occasion as this, especially if you have dyed their ears and tail different colors (don't ask, it is a fashion statement here).
All in all a good time was had
EDIT: posted some of the pictures from the fest on my photo-blog

There are no uppercuts in Salsa....
This mantra repeats in my head, as I try to ape the smooth movements of my teacher. The tempo of the music is contagious.
"OK, man you're doing good. Now remember that your dance partner will be moving with you, so keep the timing. If you loose it, someone is gonna get stepped on."
Part of me is glad that I decided to get some basics before heading to the salsa club, the other side wants to jump right into the mix and learn by doing.
"Forward on the left foot, back on the right. Feel the rhythm."
Concentrating on my feet, my arms are left to their own accord.
"Dude, um... I don't think you're gonna be blocking punches."
Looking down I see my arms have gone into a defensive position, the foot work is similar enough to a martial arts form that muscle memory has taken over. ~sigh~ Now all of me is glad that I got some basics first.
"Forward on the left foot, back on the right. Feel the rhythm. No uppercuts."
The things I do to impress women.

Randomness
If I can not tell you some information because it will violate a contract, asking the guy beside me will net you the same answer.
The creator of the cell phone will be both loved and despised throughout history.
Subjecting your coworkers to the smell of Corn nuts in a small office should be punishable by a severe beating. Loudly crunching them and smacking you lips while you eat said snack food, should be grounds for a violent painful death.
It costs nothing to be polite. When a engineer flies across the world to help you, and after 2 minutes of conversation you make a comment about her chest is not a good way to keep goodwill up and running. This also has the added effect of making the large technician beside her irate (yours truly), and can involve very pointed words when she is out of earshot.
Why are the stupid ones always put in to management positions?
Lunch really needs to hurry up and get here.

Rose colored glasses...
Bright blue eyes burn with the righteousness of a zealot.
"All good people hate war, but at times it is necessary. Trust me when I say that people who have stood and fought hate war more than you will ever understand."
"War is never necessary, too many people are dying."
"What about World War 2 was that necessary? More people died on D-Day, than have died in Iraq. That's just one day."
The righteousness falters for a second, then come bright even brighter.
"Even that one shouldn't have happened, war is never necessary. If I had my way people would just be nice to each other."
Sadly enough I was not talking to a child, this is from a young woman working on her masters in "Socio Economic Design and Construction". Yet another reason that fanatics are dangerous. Truth be known, I wish everyone could just be nice to each other. Alas I don't think human nature allows for that.

Surpise
His attack comes with only the slightest tell, but that is enough. The kick that should have taken my head off finds empty air, and I am upon him. Chain punches rain down on him as tries to understand how I got so close. In a panic he tries to back away only to find his foot won't rise as mine has it pinned. He jerks his foot back as I release it and give him a slight nudge, the rest of the studio has gone quiet as their teacher flies off his feet.
With a grin I strip the padded gloves off and offer him a hand up.

My nature...
"I don't know, his shoulders are pretty big."
A deft smirk flashes
"I work out, and it's my nature."
How many can claim that they truly know their true nature?
What happens when two sides of your nature come into conflict?
"gnothi seauton" or "Know thyself" was inscribed in the pronaos of the Temple of Apollo at Delphi. At times I don't know if I truly do, and others I think I know myself too well. I suppose this lumps me in with the rest of humanity, scary thought.

Why fight?

Why fight? A better question would be "Why live?".
Not talking about fisticuffs, talking about life in general.
It's not about winning or losing, it's about having tried. It's about standing up for what you want and those you care about. It's about not choosing the easy path. It's about passion, pain, joy, and in the end it's about life.
If you're not willing to fight, are you alive?

Can't sleep...
Returning to the my bed, scarlet numbers glare at me 02:00. I try again to slumber, almost immediately my mind is flooded. Guess there is no choice, time to try the place. Under the accusing 04:00 I create the flame in my mind, and let it all burn away. With all the thoughts gone and the flame extinguished I start to fade. The world becomes soft and begins to s.l..i...p a...w.a....y....
CRACK!!!
The world snaps into sharp focus, every sense dials in at the sudden sound. Muscles tense and prepare to move. The glue holding one of my mounted photos to the wall has let go allowing a Hong Kong Skyscraper to crash into my floor. 04:15 dances before me mockingly. The rest of the night passes in reverie. Never fully asleep and not quite awake, the false sleep of wakefulness.
The blaring crescendo of my alarm clock is no surprise, 0600 beams at me triumphant. It's gonna be a long Monday.

Trust
When I call someone a friend, that is someone I put my trust into. I know many people but only consider a very few friends, these are the people I love like brothers and sisters. That none of the folks involved played me straight on this, kinda leave me floored. Things done with "the best intentions" often fall short of the mark.

The place
All anger goes into it, all fear, all longing, all sadness, all happiness, all emotions burn away. Next comes the issues of the day, all the issues from work, her eyes, it all burns away. Everything I am burns away, leaving nothing but the fire and with out fuel it goes out. This is the place.
Senses expand and the world slows down, the guys across the gym play basketball in slow motion. Finally I move, the heavy bag jerks from the impacts. Every bead of sweat is felt, the heart races to keep up with the demand. I hear the hushed whispers as the basket ball players stop to watch. The cycle continues, formlessness is given form, every breath is measured, every movement precise, nothing is wasted.
Finally it ends, and I leave the place. The world rushes in and fills the void. I feel everything again, but it doesn't seem as important. My body aches, and all I can do is smile. It's been a long time since I came here, and I have missed it.

Saying goodbye....

Said goodbye to a friend last night. She is leaving the country to pursue a better life. Quite a bittersweet evening, laughs and smiles that never quite reach the eyes. Promises to visit that ring hollow were exchanged. After all is said and done farewell is said and the lingering emptiness is left.

Pirate time!!
Every normal man must be tempted at times to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats. -Henry Louis Mencken
Even pirates, before they attack another ship, hoist a black flag. -Bela Kiraly
Life's pretty good, and why wouldn't it be? I'm a pirate, after all. -Johnny Depp
There is more treasure in books than in all the pirate's loot on Treasure Island and at the bottom of the Spanish Main... and best of all, you can enjoy these riches every day of your life. -Walt Disney (not a true pirate quote, but one I like none the less)
The average man will bristle if you say his father was dishonest, but he will brag a little if he discovers that his great-grandfather was a pirate. -Bern Williams
Where there is a sea there are pirates. -Greek proverb
Now and then we had a hope that if we lived and were good, God would permit us to be pirates. -Mark Twain

I've never.....
Figured that would be a good topic for today......
Ive never:
Been to all 7 continents (been to 6, but Antarctica still eludes me)
Parachuted (not that fond of planes, so jumping out of one is not really me)
Been married (been engaged, but never gone all the way)
Been arrested
Seen my grandparents naked (most people reading this right now just had a very bad mental image that is going to haunt them)
Needed a safety word (they are for wusses anyway)
Defused a bomb at the last second, saving the day (my first response to a bomb is to get away quickly)
Just a couple things I've never done.

Chasing the ghost
My friend is quite literally stressing herself sick over a relationship that may or may not exist. Smart thing to do would be call the other person (face to face would be better, but time zone and location are factors here) and ask them what is going on, get the answer you need and move one way or the other.
Being that this is a matter of the heart, the smart thing is probably not going to come into play. Fear of rejection keeps the call from happening, but then anxiety about what is happening eats away at her. Not the best of situations.
To my point of view she has three options:
1. Make the call, have the talk and move on.
2. Say enough is enough, put a stop to it and move on.
3. Stay where you are and keep beating yourself up with worry.
It weighs on me to see a friend going through this sort of thing. Not too much of a way to help, save listening and offering advise when they ask (only when they ask, very important that). The only way things are going to improve is to move forward, one way or the other. Good or bad you can not keep chasing the ghost.

Not exactly upbeat, but I like it.
Don't cry to me.
If you loved me,
You would be here with me.
You want me,
Come find me.
Make up your mind.
Should I let you fall?
Lose it all?
So maybe you can remember yourself.
Can't keep believing,
We're only deceiving ourselves .
And I'm sick of the lie,
And you're too late.
Don't cry to me.
If you loved me,
You would be here with me.
You want me,
Come find me.
Make up your mind.
Couldn't take the blame.
Sick with shame.
Must be exhausting to lose your own game.
Selfishly hated,
No wonder you're jaded.
You can't play the victim this time,
And you're too late.
Don't cry to me.
If you loved me,
You would be here with me.
You want me,
Come find me.
Make up your mind.
You never call me when you're sober.
You only want it cause it's over,
It's over.
How could I have burned paradise?
How could I - you were never mine.
So don't cry to me.
If you loved me,
You would be here with me.
Don't lie to me,
Just get your things.
I've made up your mind.

Interesting conversation snippits from the pub
I wish my mom was that easy....
Would you like to see my Clock ring?
Piss off ya scunner!
What does "sod off" mean? (always funny when an insult is lost in translation)
OK, the politics talk stops or I drop my pants! (said by me, and followed through with)
Give it up man, quit waiting for her to walk in. She blew you off again. (said to me)

Oh the humanity!!!!
Now I am not one to suggest that prisoners be treated badly in way, but come on.
No scented deodorant and shampoo, the cleaners leaving marks on the walls, and a ball that "hardly" bounced. Sounds like a cheap motel rather than a prison.
So what would you say to conditions where you slept in a "coffin locker (1,2)" stacked three high and shared your room with around 100 other people? Where you rarely see the light of day for months at a time? Where not only do you have no ball, you have no place to use it? These are the conditions that the men and women of the US Navy live in every day. I spent 5 Med cruises, and 1 West PAC (not to mention the work ups and other miscellaneous exercises) living like this (roughly 5 years). Not once did I whine about deodorant being unscented, so forgive me if scoff at this.

Changing the world
Passion , lasting change does not come to the apathetic.
Patience, lasting change does not come quickly.
Dedication, lasting change does not come easy.
Sacrifice, lasting change does not come cheaply.
Strength, lasting change does not come without work.
These are things I feel are needed in a person to change the world. How they use these traits are just as important as having them. From what I have seen,
The least effective burn with too much passion, they force their views down the throats of everyone around them. The with us or against us ideals, no compromise. Right here right now, everything or nothing. They force change.
The middling will listen to compromise, and try to lead from the front and coax people to come to their side. They teach change.
The truly effective, see the world as it should be and live their lives accordingly. Others see this and instinctively follow suit. Thus the change comes with out being realized. They are change.

Tigers tigers everywhere
The Tiger
The Tiger is said to be lucky vivid, lively and engaging. Another attribute of the Tiger is his incredible bravery, evidenced in his willingness to engage in battle or his undying courage. Maybe he’s so brave because he is so lucky. But the Chinese say a Tiger having a Tiger in the house is the very best protection against the evils of fire, burglary.
Years of the Tiger
Tiger Years are third in the cycle and recur every twelfth year. The Chinese New Year does not fall on a specific date, so it is essential to check the calendar to find the exact date on which each Tiger year actually begins.
THE SIGN OF THE TIGER
Tigers do not find worth in power or money. They will be completely honest about how they feel and expect the same of you. On the other hand, they seek approval from peers and family. Generally, because of their charming personalities Tigers are well liked. Often, failing at a given task or being unproductive in his personal or professional life can cause a Tiger to experience a depression. Criticism from loved ones can also generate this type of Tiger reaction. Still, like all felines, Tigers always land on their feet, ready for their next act in life, pursuing it with unyielding energy and hunting it infallibly.
Tigers are also incorrigibly competitive - they simply cannot pass up a challenge, especially when honor is at stake, or they are protecting those they love. Tigers are unpredictable and it would be unwise to underestimate their reactions. They may appear cool, but they have the Big Cat's instincts to pounce at a moment's warning. Natural leaders, they have a strong sense of their own dignity, and if they find
themselves in the ranks, they can be stubborn and obstinate. In positions of power they can be difficult though stimulating bosses. Tigers are intelligent, alert, and farsighted. They have their fingers on the pulse. Good strategists and tacticians, they often have a hidden agenda. As long as they do not risk their luck too often, and keep their restless nature under control, their tactics usually pay off in life.
TIGER FACTS:
People born in the year of the Tiger share certain characteristics. The Tiger sign is an abbreviated way of characterizing that individual’s personality. Following are features associated with the sign of the Tiger.
Third in order, Chinese name - HU, sign of courage
Hour--am-4:59am Month--February
Western counterpart—Aquarius
CHARACTERISTICS
Courage, Vehemence, Self-Reliance, Friendliness, Hopefulness, Resilience, Vanity, Disregard
IN YOUR ELEMENT
The characteristics of the Tiger are tempered by one of the five Chinese elements of Metal, Water, Wood, Fire and Earth overlaying a 5-year cycle of characteristics on the original 12-year cycle.
THE METAL TIGER 195O AND 2010
The Metal element gives the Tiger its sharpness in action and speed of thought. Tigers born in the Metal year like to stand out in a crowd. With an inspiring assertiveness and competitive demeanor, they determine their goals and then do anything necessary to achieve them. This good-looking character sometimes suffers from mood swings and temper tantrums. The Tiger can be known to jump to conclusions or to act too quickly without weighing the options or understanding the consequences. This is a flaw Tigers must learn to curb.
THE WATER TIGER 1902 AND 1962
The Water element gives the Tiger a soothing characteristic making this breed a bit more tranquil. Their ability to consider feelings and ideas from other people makes them quite sensible and understanding. They are also born with a great intuitive power, which gives them accurate and excellent judgement. The Tiger is a bit indecisive, a habit of nature born of his routine of watching and waiting before leaping. Sometimes too, Tigers get caught sleeping or daydreaming, prohibiting them from going for the goals they initially set out to accomplish.
THE WOOD TIGER 1914 AND 1974
The Wood Tiger is more adaptable to working with others and therefore does not demonstrate the typical "take charge" attitude of other Tigers. The Wood element adds stability, giving him warmth of character that draws people in and makes the Tiger a popular person. They are not selfish creatures and will give their time, attention or possessions to anyone in need. These Tigers bring a solid practicality to any problem. They can control their urges to completely take over, letting others do the work. They must be aware of their slightly volatile tempers and short attention spans, and not let those characteristics get the best of them or cause them or their loved ones undue pain.
THE FIRE TIGER 1926 AND 1986
Eccentric and dramatic, Fire Tigers are aglow with passion and verve. They are outgoing, expressive and look on the bright side of things. They have the Tiger’s natural ability to lead others and are able to excite others simply with their own gift of enthusiasm. They can be funny and have great senses of humor. Tigers are powerful speakers and have the ability to command and persuade crowds through speech. Their own seemingly endless supply of energy can make them appear a bit dramatic, and it may make them more sensitive to cautious or down-to-earth approaches in others.
THE EARTH TIGER 1938 AND 1998
Earth Tigers are realists and tend not to get caught up by their own enthusiasm and excitement. They have a stout and sincere sense of responsibility that other Tigers haven’t quite cultivated and are not so easily distracted. These Tigers take life a little easier and have the ability to focus for longer periods of time, which in turn brings them success through continued effort. Earth Tigers must be careful not to take life too seriously and must remember not to lose their senses of humor or to ignore the needs and feelings of others.
HEALTH AND HOME
HEALTH
Tigers tackle everything in their lives in brief bursts of energy, collapsing afterwards in a heap of exhaustion. Normally they are soon back to full strength, but their approach can cause their long-term health to suffer. They should take it a little easier and learn to pace themselves to keep active longer and to prevent early burnout. They are blessed with flexibility and recover quickly from illness or pain. They owe it to themselves to relax a little. Along with the fitness of their long-term health, Tigers must be aware of how they react to and are affected by the consequences of their tempers. A Tiger’s meanest enemy is the damage he can inflict upon himself in the midst of a temper tantrum.
AT HOME WITH THE TIGER
Tigers take pride in being different than others and generally illustrate their originality best in their homes. Tigers can utilize their atmosphere with color and light. A Tiger’s home will be filled with exotic treasures from trips past and will include items such as Tibetan prayer mats or African carvings, confirming their desire to travel to distant places.
CAREER AND FINANCE
THE TIGER ON THE JOB
A quickness and an alert intelligence make Tigers fast learners. Tigers need a challenge. Add this to them being easily bored and it explains why Tigers tend to change careers more often than other Chinese Animals. Some Tigers don’t change their occupations frequently enough and thus tend to juggle jobs all at the same time. Most Tigers are natural born leaders who perform best knowing they are working towards positions of power and influence.
MONEY AND THE TIGER
Tigers depend on luck. They like to spend money, and also to share it. They can be quite impulsive spenders because they know they can always make more. Somehow, as luck would have it, they discover the end of the rainbow just before complete bankruptcy. They are willing to lose a fortune in their lifetime, if it means they will wind up with two.

FRIENDS AND ENEMIES
Tigers, born under the third Animal sign of the Chinese Zodiac, have the ability to lift the spirits of even the most depressed or lonesome individual they meet. Because of that attitude, Tigers have no problem making new friends. Actually, a Tiger person without a friend is quite miserable and sad. Like the Dragon, the Monkey, and the Rat, Tigers are most comfortable surrounded by friends and family.
As friends, Tigers are exceptionally warm and incredibly generous with their time, attention and money. Friends are always welcome in a Tiger’s home and will most often be greeted with a cup of coffee, an ear, a tissue, an open mind and an open wallet. Few friends could be as caring and affectionate, as quirky and surprising, or as genuinely interested as the Tiger.

Best Friends: Horses and Dogs
Mortal Enemy: Monkeys
TIGER PARENTS AND BABIES

Tiger parents can be fun as kittens, playing family games and getting great enjoyment from it. On the whole, they enjoy their children's company, having a good laugh and sharing a funny joke. Still, adult Tigers will become enraged if one of their children has gone too far, or is disrespectful. As open-minded and liberal as they are, they will not, under any circumstances, tolerate bad manners, or a lack of respect for other adults.
They take their role as parents very seriously, and they believe in the value of a good education. When their kids are small, Tigers like to tell them tales and read them stories. They like to talk about their childhood experiences, and use their stories to instill moral lessons or any ethical feelings. Tigers are decidedly convinced to make themselves the very best role models for their children that they can be.

LOVERS AND SPOUSES
THE TIGER LOVER
Tigers are incredibly sexy people, beautiful to most people and sensually romantic. They are spontaneous lovers who never lose their creative spark or flare for an evening of passion. They offer their partner a hint of danger and exhibit a curiosity for the unknown.
MARRIAGE
Once a Tiger has committed himself to you, he can tend to want to dominate or lead you. This is a natural nurturing mechanism and must be kept under close watch to avoid complete control. For the negative effects a Tiger can have on
his partner, there are a zillion positive things he will bring to the relationship. Trust, passion, politeness and spontaneity are only a few characteristics of the Tiger mate.
THE TIGER LOVE PARTNER
Tigers love excitement and need someone who can keep up with all they want to do and see. His partner must also be able to stand the mood swings, the ups and downs, the good with the bad. Chinese horoscopes are very specific about which partnerships have the potential to be successful in love and in business. Yet, though destiny can point us ion the right direction, we must still make all efforts to maintain loving relationships. Following is a brief description of how a Tiger will affect a relationship with other Animal signs.
PARTNERS IN LOVE

Tiger*Dragon
A brave combination plenty of fire to keep you interested.

EAST MEETS WEST
ARIES TIGER
Volatile and active, these people are whirlwinds who must enjoy open spaces and a lot of activity. Feeling pinned down to one decision or one destination is an Aries Tiger’s worst nightmare. These people are generous and brave as well as deeply passionate people.
LIBRAN TIGER
These Tigers play fair and value justice in their everyday lives. They are known to flail in their own personal decision-making efforts.
TAUREAN TIGER
More down-to-earth than other Tigers, these people are practical and will finish tasks they start. They work well under pressure and can maintain their workloads through amazing efforts. They are passionate in their partnerships and provide stability to their loved ones.
SCORPIO TIGER
This is the most intense Tiger of them all. Scorpio Tigers are deeply emotional and sensitive people, extremely focused on the task at hand. They are strong-willed and motivated and don’t like contradiction.
GEMINI TIGER
These people like to move about freely. They yearn to see new places and to meet new people in their travels. They are quirky, funny, intelligent and lively and are more comfortable being the life of the party than being a guest there.
SAGITTARIAN TIGER
These Tigers have a great appetite for life and thrust themselves into everyday of their lives. They are mostly extroverts who enjoy being out and about in strange places. They also like to be spontaneous and often jump to conclusions before weighing the consequences.
CANCERIAN TIGER
The Cancerian Tiger is a romantic individual who is sensitive and tenderhearted. This character needs a loving, honest relationship to thrive.
CAPRICORN TIGER
These people work long, hard hours to achieve the level of success they believe they are destined for. Their career will always be the most important thing in their lives, with love and relationships following a close second and third.
LEONINE TIGER
This Tiger expects the respect he believes he deserves. He works hard for his status and position and commands a certain presence when he enters a room.
AQUARIAN TIGER
These Tigers ignore the rules and regulations of society and choose instead to focus on matters of the heart. They tend to forget about the emotions involved in these matters, which causes them to seem harder and less sensitive.
VIRGO TIGER
These Tigers can be pretty picky when it comes to choosing a partner. They have an eye for detail that can cause them to be a little neurotic at times.
PISCEAN TIGER
Quite sensitive and kind, these Tigers are a bit more reserved than most. They are patient and loving and often supress the fiery passions that can accompany the Tiger personality. Once they decide they want a partner, they will stop at nothing to get him or her.

Observations from the weekend
Heavy drinking can lead to people dropping their pants in bars.
Barcardi 151 can make a standard rum and coke, dangerous and quite painful.
The Nintendo Wii (despite the stupid name), has to be one of the coolest video game consoles ever.
There is no non-embarrassing way to ask a friend to come over and play with your Wii.
The late night partying is just not as fun with out certain people around.
I must be growing up, my wardrobe now included cuff-links (pretty spiffy ones to boot).
The heart wants what the heart wants, no matter how much people tell you it's a bad idea (non-solicited advise no less).
Reflecting on Tuesday, not sure how I feel about the possibility of deploying to Iraq.
Women confuse the hell out of men, and men frustrate women (Yeah, I know that this is well documented).
Got told by a friend that my Chinese horoscope was pretty dead on (not too sure about the playboy part myself, but I am pretty self-centered).
Saw Spiderman 3 (in good company), thought it was ok. A bit too much crying and touchy feelly for what I look for in a comic book movie (Wolverine never cried). Also still not too sure about the emo-Peter Parker. I do, however, want one of those flying snowboards.

Last Letter Home -Dropkick Murphys
Today I write to you about our sons
The boys start school today
They're the spitting image of you in every way
Hey son it's Dad
I hope this letter finds you well out of harm's way
We saw the news today it frightened your Mom
Now all she does is pray
If I lead will you follow?
Will you follow if I lead?
Hey Melissa it's me don't be afraid
I'm in good hands I'm gonna be home soon
It's time to watch the children grow up
I wanna be more than a voice on the phone
Thanks Ma I got your package today
I love "The Fields Of Athenry"
I swear I want 'em to play that song on the pipes
At my funeral when I die
I stand alone in the distance
And the foreground slowly moves
"We regret to inform you that on January 28th Sgt. Andrew
Farrar died while serving his country in the Al-Anbar province
of Iraq words cannot convey our sorrow"
When there's nothing on the horizon
You've got nothing left to prove
If I lead will you follow?

Floating in the Random zone
Who ever came up with Cinnamon Altoids is a genius.
Is there any sport that can not be made more watchable by adding the words "Female" and "Topless" to it? (may even make NASCAR watchable, but they would have to drive convertibles)
Is there anything the Main Steam Media will not try to make a crisis out of?
Could Kinder Eggs be the coolest candy ever?
Heard the new Linkin Park single, was not impressed. Seems to have lost their edge and fallen into the realm of popular rock.
Is there any movie that Uwe Boll can not make horrible?

Contentment.
Money or happiness: which is more valuable?
Success or failure: which is more destructive?
If you look to others for fulfillment,
you will never truly be fulfilled.
If your happiness depends on money,
you will never be happy with yourself.
Be content with what you have;
rejoice in the way things are.
When you realize there is nothing lacking,
the whole world belongs to you.

Blame...
Who is to blame? This seems to be the mantra nowadays. Is it the fault of the firearms, the state, the school, the parents, the rich kids, video games, rock and roll, the government, who? Why were actions not taken? In all the whys and who's one thing keeps bugging me, why is the shooter not the villain? In every news report and article the shooter, to me, seems to be made just as much of a victim as the people he killed. Why is he not held responsible for his actions? Many other people have hard lives, and manage not to go on a killing sprees.

Busy week
Helped my customers fix yet another one of the problems they cause themselves by not listening to people in the know (ie...ME).
Had dinner and coffee with a Scottish friend, and discussed all the high schoolish drama in our group.
Scheduled a trip to Hong Kong (YAY!!!)
Had dinner and drinks with the muse of my soul (I know you're going to eventually read this so have to poke fun at you)
Obtained all the stuff needed for Saturday's Toga Party , and only had one auto accident getting the stuff.
Paid for my Hong Kong trip (and received requests for various things from the wonderful city)
Had dinner with a Korean friend, who always manages to make me laugh.
Obtained information for some company bigwigs that decided to drop in unexpectedly.
Rolled up a Dungeons and Dragons character, a Kender thief (yep, still a geek at heart)
and still managed to make it to the gym every night.
And now it's the weekend, curious on what it will hold.

Hong Kong bound

Well made a snap decision yesterday, going to Hong Kong for a weekend. Been way too long since I've been there, and as an added bonus I get to finally meet a friend face to face.

offensive material
Police were called in because a 10 year old boy called a classmate "gay" in an email. I remember growing up, we called each other all sorts of names. Never needed the police. Over react much?
School district supports "Ebonics" . So much for teaching proper English skills, and getting students prepared for the real world.
12 students suspended for praying in school.
"Congress make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."
Guess that doesn't include Christian students trying to have a prayer meeting. Still trying to figure out how a meeting at 7 am in the cafeteria would "disrupt education".
Maybe they should have claimed they were role-playing, instead of having a prayer meeting. It seems to have worked in San Francisco.
Just give it a rest. Stop with the double standards, and quit trying to subject everyone to your half-assed "Brady Bunch" view of the way the world is supposed to be. I don't give a damn about color, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or anything else. I try to live my life, pay my bills, and make it to the end of each day. I don't try to make you accept my views, quit trying to force me to submit to yours.

Non-being
but it is the center hole
that makes the wagon move.
We shape clay into a pot,
but it is the emptiness inside
that holds whatever we want.
We hammer wood for a house,
but it is the inner space
that makes it livable.
We work with being,
but non-being is what we use.

Irritating to say the least..
Windows VISTA- 300 bucks for bug ridden piece of software. Let's see my Ipod software is flaky at best (hmmm....the Zune is crashing and burning and suddenly there are compatibility issues with the competition's mp3 player). Other software that I use quite abit is now useless, Photoshop CS, my photo printer, system mechanic, and quite a few others can't be installed. Now to try and find time to reinstall XP.
Political correctness- It is every person's right to be an asshole. If something offends you, tough deal with it. Get over yourself, drop the mock righteousness and just insult them back or ignore it. Making it illegal to say "certain" words just makes the underlying ignorance and resentment stronger.
Activist Actors- You played the president in a movie so that makes you an expert on international relations in what way? Wow, I wish I was rich and famous so that I could know how the whole world works. Two words for you "Bite me", you are an entertainer nothing more. With the bile that Hollywood is putting forth these days (with exception to Tarintino, Peter Jackson, Frank Miller, and a select few others), you should be expressing sorrow to the poor sods that watched your film.
Lack of common courtesy- I may be a brash person, but I am aware of the people around me and try not to be intentionally rude. I seem to be one of a dying few in this, it takes nothing to at least acknowledge another person's existence. It takes only a little more to just act civilized, try it sometime.
As I said, just somethings that irk me. There are plenty more, but those are for a later time.

Angels, Demons, and Addiction
To know knowledge is enlightenment,
To know when you've had enough is enough,
You will have enough."
This is a mantra that I was taught over a decade ago, by one of my first martial arts teachers. It is a basic truth, You have to know yourself and your limitations. I've been noticing that the last couple months, I have not known who it was walking in my shoes and speaking with my voice or acting in my guise. I did not even notice the stranger until a friend (ironically enough, a sympathetic bartender) asked me what was going on and why the change.
In the few months there has been a rage in my eyes, that he had never seen before, and an aggressiveness to my body language and actions. This has caused me to take a step back and look at myself, I'm an addict. Not to any drug, but to certain people. When I am with them the world is great. If their attention is diverted to someone else then the aggression comes on strong. When they are not there, withdraw.
Remember in cartoons, the little angel and devil that would appear on people's shoulders? Well little bit of that adding things to the mix. Certain friends try to guide me one way or the other. Angels who see it coming and try to cheer me up, and Demons who try to bring it out.
Time to step back, and get back to being me.
Writing way more melodramatic than it really is. Gah, rereading this sounds like I'm turning into emo-boy (wonder if that comes with a cape). Must fight the urge to listen to the Cure and dress in black.
Fair winds and following seas
Saying goodbye to a fine old lady. The USS John F. Kennedy has been decommissioned after 40 years (All ships, no matter the name are referred to as female.). I spent 8 months aboard her supporting Iraqi Freedom, and am a bit melancholy about her retirement. On one hand she is at a well deserved rest, on the other she will never again stride the world. Goodbye old girl, you will be missed. Fair winds and following seas.

Why idiots should not see movies
"The movie has fabricated the history," the IRNA news agency said. Maybe because it is a MOVIE based off a COMIC BOOK. I am pretty certain Spiderman, Superman, and X-men did a little bit of history fabrication as well (radioactive spider attacks, meteors with babies inside crashing into Kansas, and I'm almost positive the Golden Gate Bridge has not been ripped out of the ocean).
"The film has also been criticized in the United States as a thinly veiled attack on the Bush administration because it allegedly depicts Spartan King Leonidas as waging an illegal war." Again it is from A COMIC BOOK. The Iraqi war started in 2003 (trust me I was there for the kick off), the comic book was released in 1999, do the math. With the exception of couple scenes dealing with the queen trying to get help from the Parliament, the film was pretty much spot on from the comic. (So if anything the film is a thinly veiled attack on democrats for trying to halt support for the soldiers in Iraq)
Quit trying to ruin my fun at movies, get over yourselves and try to enjoy life. Some times a movie is just a movie, now let me enjoy my popcorn.

Yet more randomness
Why is it that people who call others fascists, are the first to try and stop any view that is opposed to their own?
Did they really need to make a "Fast and the Furious 3"? Wasn't the first two installments enough of this tripe?
WWJD for a Klondike bar? (Thanks tshirthell.com)
Why do women ask you "Why can't I find a nice guy like you?" and then go for the asshole? (just a tip, I am a guy like me)
Life isn't fair. Why do people whine and cry about this, instead of working to overcome it?
If you have nothing that you would die for, do you have anything to live for?

The weekend...
Not all Saturday night was fun, there was some drama. At one point (after leaving my place and heading downtown to the normal bars) a friend found out the guy she had been talking to all night was married , so helped her down to a cab and saw her off. While down there, I see a really drunk (almost unconscious) girl sitting on the sidewalk next to the door to the bar. This is someone I had met a couple times, so helped her into a cab and sent here home. At this point the drama starts.
Some guy saw me do it, and comes up all puffed up like a rooster. Apparently he had been spending alot of money to get the girl in that state and was unhappy that I had ruined his chance to have some fun (he stated in much less nice words). I responded with my view of men who need to get women semi-comatose to have a chance of getting laid (also in very non-nice words), and quite frankly was itching for a fight (very unusual for me, but I really hate guys like this). Two of his chums dragged him away before things could get interesting.
So then it's off to grab a quick bite to eat with some friends, after seeing them off I do a quick trip back in the bar to say goodbyes and then head to the house as the morning sun rises.

Sarcasm
Today one of the Koreans saw the empty refrigerator box and asked me if we had a new one. I told him not yet we only got the box today and it will come later. At this point he asked me when it would be delivered.
This is not the first time I have ran into this, but it never fails to amaze me.
Black Friday Rule -Flogging Molly
So I dream of a man whose hopes never end
To kiss with a girl who's as lovely as you
I'd give you my heart, if you gave me the truth
And for every tear that is lost from an eye
I'd dig me a well where no man could destroy
I want to believe in a freedom that's bold
But all I remember is the freedom of old
Well I lost me a wife, so I found me a plane
Flew all the way to California
This mess in my head is a mess getting out
Ya drink too much coffee, I drink too much stout
But after a while, when my mouth's not so dry
I'll dance up a storm, sure life's looking fine
But as darkness falls, I return to my bed
Don't ask me more questions, don't fuck with my head
I've been down in this world, down and almost broken
Like thousands of people, left standing in their shoe
I've been down in this world, down and almost broken
As thousands they grieve, as the Black Friday rule
The buildings they shake but my heart it beats still
Oh mother of Jesus, I feel pretty ill
I want to go home where my feet both feel safe
But there ain't no jobs in the old free state
So I must remain in my new adopted land
I'm doing the best, Hell I'm doin' all I can
So next time you see me, don't ask for my name
For I am the King and sure long may I reign
I've been down in this world, down and almost broken
Like thousands of people, left standing in their shoe
I've been down in this world, down and almost broken
As thousands they grieve, as the Black Friday rule
I've been down in this world, down and almost broken
Like thousands of people, left standing in their shoe
I've been down in this world, down and almost broken
As thousands they grieve, as the Black Friday rule

That damn Murphy!
How many times have you been running late for work and had every stop light turn against you? How many term papers have been claimed by inopportune computer crash, or power outage, the night before they are due?
Kinda funny that one simple phrase can give a man infamy and at least some small measure of immortality.
Edit: And in Murphy related news. Not 30 minutes after writing this post I found out I owe about $10,000 in income tax. Murphy strikes again.

St Patrick's Day approaching!!

Saturday is the one day a year when we can all be Irish, St. Patrick's Day. Next to Halloween, my favorite holiday of the year. Last year I wore a green dress (such is the life of a hasher), this year I think I will keep to the more manly clothing (not sure if it will be green, might be fun to be pinched), and will be hosting a party. So tomorrow will be buying up plenty of refreshing beverages, and Friday will be cooking up Jello shots (there's always room).

Change
there is nothing you will try to hold on to.
If you aren't afraid of dying,
there is nothing you can't achieve.
Trying to control the future
is like trying to take the master carpenter's place.
When you handle the master carpenter's tools,
chances are that you'll cut your hand.

Nothing endures but change.
